The Seasons of the Tree - ฤดูกาลของต้นไม้

​​There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn to not judge things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away. 

The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the fall. When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen.

The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted.

The second son said, no, it was covered with green buds and full of promise.

The third son disagreed, he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen.

The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.

The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but one season in the tree’s life. He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are—and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life—can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons have passed.

If you give up when it’s winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, and the fulfillment of your fall. Let’s judge life by looking at a mix of all the seasons. Let the joy and challenges of the seasons of life weave a beautiful tapestry.

​ชายผู้หนึ่งมีบุตรสี่คน เขาต้องการให้บุตรเรียนรู้ที่จะไม่ด่วนตัดสินอะไรเร็วเกินไป ดังนั้นเขาจึงส่งแต่ละคนออกเดินทางแสวงหาคำตอบ โดยผลัดกันไปดูต้นสาลี่ ซึ่งอยู่ห่างไกลออกไป

บุตรคนแรกไปตอนฤดูหนาว คนที่สองไปตอนฤดูใบไม้ผลิ คนที่สามไปตอนฤดูร้อน ส่วนคนสุดท้องไปตอนฤดูใบไม้ร่วง เมื่อทุกคนกลับมาแล้ว เขาเรียกบุตรมาพร้อมหน้ากัน เพื่ออธิบายสิ่งที่พบเห็น

บุตรคนแรกกล่าวว่าต้นสาลี่ดูโทรมมาก ลำต้นบิดเบี้ยว กิ่งก้านห้อยย้อย

บุตรคนที่สองบอกว่าไม่ใช่ เห็นแต่กิ่งก้านแตกตาเขียวชอุ่ม มีแนวโน้มว่าจะงอกงาม

บุตรคนที่สามไม่เห็นด้วย เขากล่าวว่า ต้นสาลี่ออกดอกสะพรั่ง ส่งกลิ่นหอมอบอวล เป็นภาพงดงามที่สุดเท่าที่เขาเคยเห็นมา

บุตรคนสุดท้ายไม่เห็นด้วยกับทุกคน เขากล่าวว่ามีลูกสาลี่เหลืองอร่ามเต็มต้น เปี่ยมด้วยชีวิตและความสมหวัง

ชายผู้นั้นจึงอธิบายให้บุตรฟังว่า ทุกคนต่างก็พูดถูก เพราะว่าแต่ละคนเห็นเฉพาะฤดูกาลเดียวของชีวิตต้นไม้  เขาบอกบุตรว่าคนเราตัดสินต้นไม้หรือบุคคลใดไม่ได้ จากการมองดูแค่ฤดูกาลเดียว แก่นแท้ที่เป็นตัวตนของเขา ความพอใจ ความยินดี และความรักที่มาจากชีวิตนั้น จะวัดได้ก็ต่อเมื่อถึงบั้นปลาย ในตอนที่ทุกฤดูกาลผ่านพ้นไปแล้ว

ถ้าคุณล้มเลิกพอถึงฤดูหนาว คุณก็จะพลาดคำสัญญาในฤดูใบไม้ผลิ พลาดความงามในฤดูร้อน พลาดผลที่มาถึงในฤดูใบไม้ร่วง  ขอให้เราตัดสินชีวิต โดยมองดูทุกฤดูกาลในภาพรวม ด้วยการนำความยินดีและความท้าทายของทุกฤดูกาลในชีวิต มาสานเป็นผ้าทอผืนงาม
